George Androulakis

George Androulakis holds a PhD in Sociolinguistics from the University of Paris 7 (1995). He taught linguistics, sociolinguistics and language teaching at several Universities in France and in Greece, and is now Professor of Sociolinguistics and Language Teaching at the University of Thessaly. He is also Head of the Greek Language and Multilingualism Lab, and he was awarded the European Language Label in 2012.

His research priorities focus on issues of sociolinguistics, task-based language teaching, intercultural education, as well as open and distance education. He was the academic coordinator of five research projects of European collaboration and of six national research and educational projects, focusing on language education for refugees and migrants. For more than 15 years he serves as an expert for the European Commission and the Council of Europe, and he is a reviewer for seven international journals.

Since 1998, George worked for the Hellenic Open University as developer of educational material, adjunct faculty tutor, and module coordinator. In September 2015 he was appointed member of the Governing Board of HOU, and in February 2016 Vice-President for Academic and International Affairs, with the mission to transform the academic landscape of distance education in Greece.
